]]> I’ve been converting sites to use the Gutenberg block editor and removing the classic editor.

Unfortunately there’s no way to automatically do it to all posts / pages at once but this could be a good thing as it does mean I can check each one as I do it. Fortunately, none of my sites are particularly massive!

It’s easy to do:

  1. Disable the classic editor plugin, or at least ensure you have the option ‘Allow User To Choose Editor’ switched on.
  2. Open up the post or page. This will add the existing content into a new ‘classic’ block.
  3. Select the classic block, and go to the ‘burger’ menu in its toolbar.
  4. From there select ‘Convert to blocks’ and bingo!

It really is that easy!

Excited To Try

I’ve played around a little with the new Gutenberg editor as it progressed from Alpha to Beta to Live. Honestly though, I’ve always been too busy to really spend enough time on it.

It had great promise right from the start, and so I was excited to finally get to build a new site from scratch using it.

First Outing And Already Impressed

And I have to say, I am impressed. It’s much faster than the old text ‘classic’ editor and much much more flexible. While it doesn’t go everything that the likes of Elementor and Visual Composer do (yet), it certainly gives them a run for their money for fairly basic sites.

The new layout also means much less scrolling up and down which I have always hated.

And did I mention it’s fast! Even when saving it seems almost instant!
